Our parent involvement has increased over the years, as BCYL has evolved into a community with entire families assisting and sharing in the activities. Various family functions such as picnics, outings, sports and community events are scheduled throughout the year. BCYL organizes an annual family picnic during the inner league all-star games under the lights. Parents bring the food, prepare and cook it, and serve it as well.

Many players who have graduated from the league have returned to become assistant coaches, scorekeepers and/or help with field or concession setup.

Parent Forum

BCYL offers educational programs to our parents throughout the year. Some of the programs presented have included workshops on fatherhood, gang awareness, college admission and financial aid and help. A program on gambling addiction is planned in the near future.

Taking it to the Park/Court

Community leaders have visited the fields/courts to speak with the young men, women and parents of the organization about their career and the obstacles they overcame to become leaders. The speakers discuss the importance of education and giving back to the community. Approximately 25 individuals have presented to date and have been very well received.
