Join the Caribe Competition Cheerleading Squad
BCYL’s Competition Cheerleading Squad is designed for experienced cheerleaders who are ready to represent BCYL at cheer competitions, showcases, and select community events. This squad is intended for athletes with prior experience in tumbling, cheer, and dance, and will consist of a minimum Level 1 cheerleading skill level.
Tryouts are held once per year, and participation on the Competition Squad is by coach approval only. Cheerleaders may not try out unless they have been approved by the coach.
The Competition Squad will include a maximum of 20 cheerleaders in grades 4 through 8. There are no restrictions based on school, town, or gender.
Parents/guardians are responsible for providing transportation to and from all practices, events, and competitions.
This squad requires a strong commitment from both cheerleaders and families due to the practice schedule, competition expectations, and event participation.
To be eligible to try out all participants must attend both cheerleading learning sessions held on Monday 8/24 and Tuesday 8/25 from 6-8pm. Attendance will be taken both days to verify eligibility. The tryout will be held on Friday 8/28 from 6-8pm.

Join the Caribe 4-8th Recreational Cheerleading Squad
BCYL’s Recreational Cheerleading Squad is designed for youth who are interested in cheerleading and want to develop their skills in a fun, supportive, and team-oriented environment. This program is ideal for cheerleaders with little to no prior experience and focuses on teaching fundamental cheerleading techniques, basic dance routines, and stomp-and-shake skills.
Members of the Recreational Squad will have opportunities to perform at community events and cheer at BCYL and Bridgeport Public Schools (BPS) basketball games throughout the season.
Tryouts are held once per year, and the squad will consist of a maximum of 20 cheerleaders in grades 4 through 8. There are no restrictions based on school, town, or gender.

BPS Cheerleading
The BPS Middle School Cheerleading Program is a FREE cheerleading program for Bridgeport Public Schools students in grades 6–8.
This program is designed for students of all experience levels, and no previous cheerleading experience is required. Athletes will learn and develop cheerleading skills in a fun, supportive, and team-focused environment.
Instruction will focus on age-appropriate cheerleading fundamentals, including motions, jumps, cheers, dance, coordination, teamwork, confidence, leadership, and performance skills.
Eligibility & Registration:
- Open to Bridgeport Public Schools students in grades 6–8
- The program is FREE for eligible BPS students
- No previous cheerleading experience is required
- Students of all skill levels are welcome
Program Experience:
Cheerleaders will have the opportunity to develop their skills while being part of a team and supporting BPS basketball throughout the season.
Participants will focus on:
- Cheerleading fundamentals
- Cheers and chants
- Motions and jumps
- Dance and routines
- Teamwork and sportsmanship
- Confidence and leadership
- Game-day and performance skills
Specific practice and game schedules will be provided to registered families.
The BPS Middle School Cheerleading Program is a great opportunity for students in grades 6–8 to stay active, build confidence, develop new skills, and experience being part of a cheer squad while representing Bridgeport Public Schools.
There is no cost to participate. Students must be enrolled in Bridgeport Public Schools and be in grades 6–8 to be eligible.
